TCM Swap Procedure

Step-by-step checklist for transmission control module replacement. Document everything, verify everything, miss nothing.

Before You Start

A TCM swap is one of the most documentation-heavy jobs in a shop. The difference between a comeback and a clean install is what you record before you pull the old module.

This wizard walks you through the full procedure: pre-pull scan, documentation, physical install, and post-install verification. Each step has a checklist — complete every item before moving on.

What You'll Need

  • Scan tool (FORScan, HP Tuners, or Autel recommended)
  • J2534 passthrough device (if programming required)
  • Camera/phone for documenting labels and connectors
  • Dielectric grease
  • Torque wrench (for mounting bolts)
  • Battery charger or maintainer

Critical Reminder

Never skip the pre-pull scan. If the vehicle comes back with a new issue, you need proof of what was there before you touched it. CYA is not optional.
